Aurora Borealis Viewing at AKBCC

by | Oct 23, 2020

Alaska Backcountry Cottages are built on the perfect property for Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) Viewing!

Northern Lights are amazing! When the solar winds and solar flares reach earth, they are affected by the earth’s magnetic field. When the charged particles collide with gas atoms and particles in the earth’s atmosphere, energy is emitted in the form of light.

When answering a visitor’s question about the ability to view the Northern Lights from AKBCC, I was able to reassure guests that their comfort in our stand alone cottages is a surety, unfortunately I can’t guarantee the sky will be dancing with the Northern Lights!

It is difficult to predict when Northern Lights appear but we know we need three things:

  1. Good weather (clear skies) 2. Solar activity and 3. Darkness Wikipedia has lots of information if you’re interested in learning more.

Take the scenic 40 minute drive from Anchorage and you’ll arrive at the PERFECT location and enjoy a 270 degree view of the surrounding mountains and have a clear view if the skies begin to dance!

At Alaska Backcountry Cottages we offer two cottage styles – with and without a loft. Both styles are stand-alone, full-service, cottages, with all the amenities needed to feel at home. Our smaller cottages, house 4 guests with two queen size beds, and the larger cottages have 3 queen size beds with a maximum capacity of 6.

Our tagline at Alaska Backcountry Cottages is“ You won’t want to leave!” and I smile every time a visitor books another night’s stay!

Fantastic!

What a great place! Everything you need and very well designed. Great amount of counter space 👌. The views out the front window and deck are fantastic. – Mike H.

Highly Recommended!

This place is wonderful! The view of the mountain range is excellent and the spot is secluded if your looking to wind down. Highly recommended if you are wanting to adventure in the Palmer-Wasilla area. The cottage was clean and the bed was comfortable. The owner left milk, a few eggs, coffee, oatmeal and snacks for us. It was a nice surprise. – Courtney D.
